As the World Cup opened on June 12, residents of Rio de Janeiro took to the streets in protest. Having spent years documenting the tensions in Rio related to the World Cup and Olympics, the opening night protest was the most peaceful I’ve witnessed. As the world watches the festivities on Copacabana Beach (also the site of the protest), the police are on their best behaviour. We produced this video (with English sub-titles) to capture some of the grievances being voiced by citizens in the streets.
